Bajaj, Kawasaki sign motorcycle distribution MoU in Indonesia
Rushlane.com, 12 Oct '12

In a joint venture between Bajaj Auto Limited (BAL) and Kawasaki Heavy Industries, the Bajaj range of motorcycles will now be assembled and sold in Indonesian markets through Kawasaki distribution channels.

The deal was signed, sealed and approved by both parties, and first shipments of Bajaj Pulsar 200NS are expected to reach Indonesian shores for sale in mid 2013.

These bikes will all be manufactured at the BAL Indian plant, while they will be assembled from semi-knocked down (SKD) kits in Indonesia.

In due course Bajaj Auto will be introducing more motorcycles of their range in Indonesia, which will include the KTM Duke range.

Bajaj bikes in Indonesian markets are not new. The company has been exporting their Pulsar models into the country and has sold over 50,000 units in the past few years.

Prior to an agreement for sales in Indonesian markets, Bajaj and Kawasaki had entered into a JV for sales in the Philippines in 2004 where they together comprise 45% of market share.

The two companies are likely to enter into more such deals where other international markets are concerned. Brazil among others international markets are on the cards which should happen in the coming 3 to 5 years.
