Beijing Hyundai will display its all-new Sonata at the Beijing Auto Show later this month and push it to the market early next year.

With the growing demand for fuel economy, many car manufacturers take turbocharging as a good way to improve it on one condition that considerable power can be generated. And it has actually proved to be quite effective in practice. South Korea's Hyundai Motor has also started the development of turbocharging technology after Volkswagen, GM, Ford and other brands.

At the New York Auto Show earlier this month, Hyundai Motor officially launched its 2.0L turbocharged model which has once again enriched the power unit of the new generation Sonata. The new engine uses the same single turbo, twin-scroll turbocharger engine with direct-injection as the new Volvo N55 and has a maximum power output of 274 mp and peak torque of 366 Nm.

Compared with the power output figures of its competitors' naturally aspirated engine V6, the new engine's power output is still in the lead. Moreover, this all-new engine is offered with a new six-speed automatic transmission and steering wheel shift picks.

Beijing Hyundai said that the new Sonata has done very well in fuel consumption. Official data shows that fuel economy of the new Sonata 2.0T engine could reach 22 mpg (about 9.35 km / l) in cities and 34 mpg (about 14.45 kilometres/litre) on freeways, a great performance compared to its competitors. Furthermore, this 2.0 T engine will be applied to the new Sonata SE and Limited models in the future.

Other motive power parts also include the Theta II 2.4-litre petrol engine, released last year with maximum power of 198 hp and maximum torque of 249 N・m. While the Sonata 2.0L Theta II, launched earlier in Korean market has a maximum power output of 165 mp and peak torque of 202 Nm.
