Bridgestone has officially confirmed the closure of its Hsinchu Hukou manufacturing facility in Taiwan, marking the end of local tyre production operations in the country following recent reports of factory shutdowns and workforce reductions.
Bridgestone Taiwan announced on May 11th that production operations at the Hsinchu Hukou plant had ceased, with all related manufacturing activities officially ending.
According to Bridgestone Taiwan, the decision forms part of a broader business transformation aimed at aligning with adjustments to the company's global operational strategy and long-term market development plans. Production at the Hsinchu plant officially stopped on May 11th, 2026. As a result, tyre models previously manufactured locally, including the Potenza, Turanza, Alenza, Ecopia and Dueler series, will now be fully imported.
Since entering the Taiwan market in 1982, Bridgestone has maintained a local presence and continued serving Taiwanese consumers.
Over the decades, the Hsinchu plant played a role in supporting the company's operations and product supply during different stages of development in Taiwan.
Bridgestone stated that the closure of the Hsinchu facility was a decision reached following evaluation and consideration as part of its global strategic adjustments.
The company also stated that affected employees would receive support during the transition process, including severance packages exceeding legal requirements and career transition assistance.
Going forward, Bridgestone Taiwan will continue its operations in the local market by shifting its focus towards sales and after-sales services.
The company also plans to utilise Bridgestone's global manufacturing network by importing a broader range of tyre products from overseas production facilities to address market demand and support its service operations.
