Government delegation, Zotye explore NEV manufacturing cooperation

A business delegation led by Dr. Muhammad Mufthi Mubarok, Chairman of Indonesia's BPKN (National Consumer Protection Agency), recently visited Zotye Auto and met with Chairman and President Han Biwen and other company executives to discuss potential cooperation related to new energy vehicle manufacturing activities in Indonesia.
Following discussions and a tour of the facilities, the two parties reached a preliminary strategic consensus on cooperation across the new energy vehicle supply chain and will proceed with preliminary research and planning.
The discussions focused on establishing a presence in Indonesia's NEV sector, covering areas such as plant development, core technology collaboration, power battery supply chain development, local talent cultivation, and export strategies for the Southeast Asian market.
Indonesian officials stated that while the country has substantial nickel reserves and growth potential in the NEV market, its domestic vehicle manufacturing ecosystem remains underdeveloped. As a result, attracting foreign automakers is considered important for industrial development.
In response to Indonesia's industrial base and resource conditions, Zotye outlined a phased cooperation strategy. The first phase involves the use of semi-knocked-down (SKD) kits to accelerate production while gradually increasing the localisation of parts. The second phase proposes the construction of a factory with an annual production capacity of 150,000 units. The facility would include the four major vehicle manufacturing processes and power battery production lines and would produce NEVs for passenger, logistics and pickup vehicle segments.
In addition, Zotye proposed transferring its research and development, manufacturing and quality control systems, together with supply chain resources, to establish a localised service ecosystem integrating sales, maintenance and training. These proposals remain preliminary and have not yet been finalised.
The delegation toured Zotye's NEV production workshops, prototype lines and component testing zones. During the visit, it observed the stamping, welding, painting and assembly processes, with particular attention given to passenger electric vehicles and urban logistics NEVs intended for the Southeast Asian market.
Both parties agreed to maintain communication, continue preliminary project-related activities, and explore cooperation in areas such as the lithium battery industry and cross-border trade.
Only a preliminary consensus has been reached, and no formal agreement has been signed. Uncertainty remains regarding the project's investment scale, construction timeline and implementation outcomes. Any specific developments are expected to be disclosed by the company in due course.
