The Honda Icon e: is intended for high school students and can be ridden without a driving licence.
On 27th March, the first Icon e: electric motorbikes were produced at Honda's factory in Vinh Phuc. According to the company, the official price of the Icon e: will be announced on 4th April.
The Icon e: is the first electric motorbike to be assembled and officially sold in Vietnam by the Japanese manufacturer. On Honda's official website, the Icon e: has been listed with a price of under VND 29 million (US$ 1,130). Its primary target customers are high school students.
The model was previously displayed at the VMS 2024 exhibition. It has dimensions of 1,796 mm length, 680 mm width, 1,085 mm height, a seat height of 742 mm, and a weight of 89 kg.
Compared to the Honda Vision scooter, the Icon e: is smaller and lighter.
The Icon e: is equipped with LED lighting for the headlights and taillights. The front and rear tyre sizes are 90/90 (12-inch wheel) and 100/90 (10-inch wheel), respectively. The front wheel has a Combined Braking System (CBS).
Other features include a monochrome LCD speedometer, a USB charging port within a storage compartment under the handlebars, and a 26-litre storage box. The motorbike uses a mechanical key.
Performance
The Icon e: has a 1.5 kW electric motor, producing a maximum output of 2.45 PS (2.42 HP) and 85 Nm of torque, with a top speed of 49 km/h. These specifications comply with Vietnamese regulations, allowing students to use it without a driving licence.
Under current Vietnamese law, electric motorbikes with a maximum power output of 4 kW and a top speed below 50 km/h do not require a licence.
The 30.6 Ah lithium-ion battery, located in the footrest area, provides a range of 50 km per charge based on Honda's testing and meets the IP67 water resistance standard.
Charging from 0 to 100% takes approximately 7.5 hours. Users can either charge the battery while it is installed in the motorbike or remove it for indoor charging.
