Autocar Professional, 15 Jan '25
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced an expansion of its partnership with Tata Communications to strengthen its connected vehicle ecosystem.
This collaboration aims to integrate Tata Communications' MOVETM platform, enabling continuous connectivity and advanced data-driven features across JLR's next-generation vehicles in more than 120 countries.
The enhanced partnership will focus on JLR's medium-sized SUVs, which will be built on the new Electric Modular Architecture (EMA) and are scheduled for launch in 2026. These vehicles will utilise the MOVETM platform to provide seamless transitions between mobile networks, ensuring uninterrupted access to personalised services, including media streaming. The platform will also improve software over-the-air (SOTA) updates, secure data exchange, and the deployment of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
JLR's connected vehicles currently generate 2.5 terabytes of data daily, with updates applied to half a million electronic control units every month.
By adopting Tata Communications' technology, JLR aims to enhance real-time vehicle performance monitoring, deliver timely software updates, and reduce maintenance costs for owners.
The forthcoming vehicles will incorporate advanced wireless communication technologies for effective tracking, even in remote locations.
Improved over-the-air software updates will enhance diagnostics and functionality, while unified connectivity plans will provide global access to applications and vehicle features through a single service provider.
Marco Bijvelds, Vice President and Global Head of Tata Communications MOVETM, remarked that the partnership would support JLR's transition to software-defined vehicles.
He highlighted its potential to deliver advanced driving capabilities and personalised customer experiences, creating opportunities for additional revenue streams.
Mark Brogden, Director of Digital Product Platform Off-Board at JLR, described the collaboration as a critical step in JLR's digital transformation.
He emphasised that the partnership would enable JLR to provide secure and cost-effective connectivity solutions, aligning with the expectations of its luxury vehicle customers.
The integration of the MOVETM platform forms part of JLR's broader innovation strategy to achieve universal connectivity and introduce AI-driven digital features in its vehicles, thereby enhancing the driving experience for customers worldwide.
