Chinese car brand Jaecoo has revealed plans to build a local assembly plant in 2026. It should be noted that so far Jaecoo is still using production line at the factory owned by Handal Indonesia Motor (HIM) located in Purwakarta, West Java to produce its cars.
In addition to Jaecoo, several Chinese brands that use the Handal factory production line are Geely, Zeekr, and Xpeng.
Jaecoo Indonesia Country Director, Max Zhou said that the company had obtained several potential investors to fund the construction of the company's factory, but he could not yet reveal who the investors were. "Since 2024, there have been several investors interested in investing in the construction of our factory," Max said.
He also hopes that Jaecoo can complete the investment process by the end of 2025, so that factory construction can begin in 2026. "We hope to complete the investment process by the end of this year, so that we can start building this factory in 2026," he said.
According to him, the construction of the factory will take about one or two years, so the factory will start operating at the latest in 2028. "I hope the factory will start operation in 2027 or 2028," explained Max.
However, he could not yet confirm where the Jaecoo factory would be built, but what is clear is that the location will still be on Java Island.
Jaecoo has released the J7 hybrid SUV model which adopts the super hybrid system (SHS). SHS technology combines super HEV and EV technology, providing optimal fuel efficiency, even in hybrid mode. Jaecoo J7 is claimed to be able to travel up to 1,372 km, with fuel consumption of only 4.4 litres per 100 km in charge - sustaining mode, and a battery range that is 20% longer than its competitors.
In addition, at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2025, Jaecoo has also launched a Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) model, namely Jaecoo J5.
