Kia opens bookings for all-new Syros ahead of launch
Autocar India, 3 Jan '25
Kia India has commenced bookings for the Syros SUV ahead of its official price announcement on February 1st.
Customers can reserve the Syros for a booking amount of Rs. 25,000 (US$ 290) either through Kia India's website or at authorised showrooms.
Public appearance and test drives
The Syros will make its first public appearance on January 17th at the Bharat Mobility Show in New Delhi.
It is expected to arrive at local Kia dealerships by late January or early February, coinciding with its launch. Customer test drives are anticipated to begin around the same time, with deliveries likely to start by mid-February.
Focus on practicality and space
At the global unveiling of the Syros, Gwanggu Lee, Managing Director and CEO of Kia India, highlighted the model's focus on maximising cabin space over exterior design.
Measuring under four metres in length, the Syros benefits from tax advantages offered to compact SUVs in its segment. The tall-boy design prioritises interior space, and the Syros surpasses the Sonet in width, height, and wheelbase.
Its rear-seat space is comparable to the larger and more expensive Seltos. Additionally, it offers a 465-litre boot, which is 20% larger than that of the Sonet, further enhancing its practicality.
Engine options and variants
The Syros will be available with two engine options across six trims:
- Petrol variant: A 1.0-litre turbocharged engine producing 122 PS and 172 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard and offers an optional 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT).
- Diesel variant: A 1.5-litre engine delivering 118 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It comes with a standard 6-speed manual transmission, with an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic.
Competition
The Syros will compete in the highly contested compact SUV segment against models such as the Skoda Kylaq, Tata Nexon, Maruti Brezza, and Hyundai Venue.
