Land Rover launches new Defender variant in Malaysia
Motor Report, 11 Nov '10

Land Rover (Malaysia) has added the new Defender 110 Double Cab pick-up to its line-up.

Priced at RM148,888 (US$ 48,000) for Peninsular Malaysia and RM152,388 for Sabah and Sarawak (excluding insurance), this new variant of the iconic model is equipped with new features designed to make it suitable for work as well as play. It now sports 16-inch alloy rims instead of steel rims, leather seats and power windows.

The Defender 110 Double Cab is powered by a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder common-rail turbodiesel 'Puma' engine that produces 360 Nm of torque and 122 bhp of power. The robust powerplant is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox with a much wider spread of ratios than before. The lower first gear ratio, combined with the engine's increased torque output, makes towing on-road and off-road effortless. The engine also features a first gear anti-stall system.

Inside the cabin, there's a new facia and improved ergonomics with greater functionality. The materials used are scuff-free and are able to withstand extreme weather conditions, allowing the Defender to operate in the toughest environment. Of course, this capability is already well known for the model which is a popular choice for armed forces in many countries.

The Defender 110 Double Cab, assembled at the INOKOM plant in Kulim, Kedah, has already generated tremendous interest in Sabah and Sarawak where it is highly valued for its legendary toughness and go-anywhere capability, according to Land Rover Malaysia.
