Locally-assembled Jaguar XJ launched in India
Jaguar had made a big announcement at the 2014 India Auto Expo of plans to locally-assembly the XJ in India.
The auto-maker has now launched the locally-assembled XJ, which is brought into India as a CKD and is being put together at the Tata Motors' owned brand's Pune plant which also assembles the XF.
The super-luxury car segment is booming with competition getting intense day by day.
Audi recently launched the 2014 A8L, priced from Rs. 11.2 million (US$ 191,192) but Jaguar has gone one step up or should we say one step below in terms of pricing, offering the XJ range from just over Rs. 9.2 million onwards ex-showroom Mumbai, pre-octroi for the diesel model.
Jaguar is offering the XJ in two trims - Premium Luxury and Portfolio, with both variants offered with two engine options - a 3-litre diesel and 2-litre petrol but the petrol model isn't being locally-assembled just yet.
Local assembly of the XJ leaves only the Audi A8L as the fully imported car in this segment, being brought as a CBU.
The BMW 7 Series and Mercedes S-Class are locally-assembled, helping the German auto-makers price their super-luxury saloons quite aggressively.
With the launch of the locally-assembled XJ, the segment has very interesting options, the XJ being the cheapest, the S-Class the most expensive and the 7 Series and A8L sitting in between.
