Maruti Suzuki India, the country's largest carmaker, plans to launch the 2.4 litre Kizashi sedan at the Auto Expo next month, according to an internal note reviewed by news sources.

Suzuki, which had showcased a Kizashi concept car at the last Auto Expo in 2008, plans to ship in a production model from the United States.

A Maruti spokesperson declined to comment on the note. "We will speak (about the Kizashi) at an appropriate time," he said.

The car will be Maruti's first foray into the competitive D-segment market. The car will be the sixth that Maruti is introducing in India from its stable of global models.

After the Auto Expo, Maruti plans to work on the appetite among Indian consumers for the Kizashi and is as yet undecided on whether the car would be imported as a completely built up (CBU) unit or assembled in India.
