Maruti compact SUVs to feature petrol, diesel, CNG variants

Maruti will have two compact SUVs in its portfolio come 2016, with the first one set to be launched early next year in the form of the SX4 S-Cross. The S-Cross, though a compact SUV, measures more than four meters in length and will rival the likes of the Duster and Terrano, the company's chairman, R. C. Bhargava, said. The second compact SUV from Maruti, likely to be the production version of the XA-Alpha concept shown at the 2012 edition of the Delhi Motor Show, is confirmed by Mr. Bhargava to be a sub-four metre offering. It will take advantage of the excise duty benefits to compete with the Ford EcoSport. Further, the chairman revealed both SUVs will be available with petrol, diesel and CNG configurations to extend their market reach. SX4 S-Cross competitors:- Renault Duster, Nissan Terrano, Mahindra Scorpio, Ford EcoSport and Hyundai ix25. SX4 S-Cross expected price:- Rs. 800,000 to 1,100,000 (US$ 13,220 to 18,180), ex-showroom. SX4 S-Cross launch date:- Early 2015. XA-Alpha competitors:- Ford EcoSport and VW Taigun. XA-Alpha expected price:- Rs. 550,000 to 900,000, ex-showroom. XA-Alpha launch date:- 2016.
