Tata Projects secures contract for new automotive plant in Maharashtra
Economic Times, 5 Nov '26
Tata Projects, the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) arm of the Tata Group, has secured a contract to develop a greenfield automotive manufacturing plant for an unnamed global automaker in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The facility will be located in the Auric-Bidkin industrial area.
The work covers three packages: the assembly shop, press and weld shop, and utility and support buildings. The scope includes civil, structural and architectural construction, mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) systems, utility networks, testing, commissioning and final handover. The company has not disclosed the contract value, the identity of the automaker or the project's completion date.
The project requires coordination across multiple engineering disciplines and construction activities to integrate the production facilities with their supporting infrastructure. The sequencing and completion of the workshops and utility systems will be necessary to prepare the facility for the transition from construction to production.
Tata Projects said the project would involve several specialised disciplines and a network of suppliers and partners. The company will undertake the development with a focus on safety, quality, project management and timely delivery.
Commenting on the contract, Rajiv Menon, President and Chief Growth and Strategy Officer at Tata Projects, said, "India's manufacturing ambitions are being shaped by investments that combine global standards, advanced technology and world-class infrastructure. We are proud to partner with a leading global automotive manufacturer in creating a facility that will contribute to this journey.
"This win also represents an important step in broadening Tata Projects' presence in advanced manufacturing. We will bring our integrated engineering and execution capabilities to the project, with an unwavering focus on safety, quality, disciplined project management and timely delivery."
The contract adds to Tata Projects' portfolio of manufacturing infrastructure projects, which includes semiconductor manufacturing facilities, battery plants, data centres and other technology-intensive developments. Automotive plants require coordination across engineering, construction, production facilities and supporting infrastructure. The sequencing and completion of these components are necessary for operational readiness.
The project will contribute to the development of the industrial cluster in the Auric-Bidkin region and forms part of Tata Projects' expansion into specialised industrial segments through its EPC operations. The development is part of the broader expansion of industrial infrastructure in Maharashtra, as India seeks to increase domestic manufacturing capacity and attract investment across industrial sectors. Such facilities are also expected to support supply-chain resilience.
