Thai Honda aims to lease 850 Honda Benly e: electric motorcycles, joins hands with MEA to build battery swap stations.
Vilas Chalermsat, Governor of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), said that they have prioritised jointly driving towards a low-carbon society by supporting the creation of an EV ecosystem, setting policies to drive and support research studies.
In addition to expanding business opportunities for electric motorcycles, they have collaborated with Thai Honda, a manufacturer and distributor of motorcycles and multi-purpose engines in Thailand, to sign a memorandum of understanding on a joint project to study business feasibility and test battery swapping station services between the MEA and Thai Honda.
The collaboration will involve studying and testing battery swapping stations to collect technical data on electricity usage and battery swapping behaviour among electric motorcycle riders at Honda battery swapping stations at two MEA offices: the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (Head Office), Khlong Toei, and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, Bang Na District.
This cooperation supports and drives government policies to create awareness and push for a Net Zero Carbon Society, as well as to enhance people's quality of life.
By helping to reduce fuel costs and providing a learning process and good user experience, this initiative aims to increase the transition from combustion engine motorcycles to electric motorcycles. It will also create a network of business partners, which will lead to further development and foster new business opportunities in the future.
Dr. Arak Phornprapha, President of Thai Honda, stated that this is another significant step for Thai Honda in collaborating with the MEA to jointly promote the use of clean energy and drive the adoption of electric motorcycles in Thailand. Thai Honda is committed to sustainably expanding the EV ecosystem in the country.
With the Honda Benly e: motorcycle, developed in response to future energy changes, the use of clean energy will reduce emissions. Along with the Honda standard battery swap station, the Honda e: Swap Station, which can swap batteries within one minute, has a temperature-controlled cabinet throughout charging to ensure the battery releases stable and safe energy.
Under the World Class Safety UNR136 standard, there are 44 locations ready to provide services across Bangkok and its vicinity, including two key service areas: the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (Head Office), Khlong Toei, and the Metropolitan Electricity Authority, Bang Na District. Thai Honda would like to thank MEA for supporting the expansion of the Honda e: Swap battery swapping stations.
This is an important step in building confidence for electric motorcycle users. In the future, the company plans to continuously expand its operations to support the electric motorcycle market, which is expected to grow efficiently. This year, Thai Honda aims to deliver 850 electric motorcycles to renters.
This comprehensive cooperation not only promotes the use of clean energy but also supports the growth of a sustainable EV ecosystem, fully backing the use of electric motorcycles in the future.
