Following the launch of the sixth-generation RAV4, Toyota's Taiwanese distributor, Hotai Motor, has expanded the model line-up in Taiwan with the introduction of a plug-in hybrid variant, priced at NTD 1.49 million (US$ 47,200).
The model has recorded strong market performance, including its position as the best-selling imported vehicle from January to May. The RAV4 PHEV combines electrification technology with multi-purpose functionality, offering a pure-electric driving range of up to 135 kilometres and CCS1 DC fast charging support for both daily commuting and long-distance use.
It is powered by a hybrid system combining a petrol engine, electric motors and a large-capacity battery pack, producing a combined output of 329 PS. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.7 seconds and is equipped with a standard E-Four electronic all-wheel-drive system.
The model operates using both battery electric vehicle (BEV) and hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) modes, allowing electric-only driving in EV mode for shorter trips and hybrid operation for extended journeys, reducing reliance on charging infrastructure.
On the inside, it is equipped with a shift-by-wire gear selector. Materials include BRIN NAUB suede-like upholstery and leather seating surfaces. Features include dual front ventilated seats, a 12.9-inch infotainment display sourced from Japan, and a head-up display (HUD).
The vehicle is equipped with the Toyota Connect system, which enables remote monitoring of charging status and remote control of functions such as air conditioning, door locking, and window operation via a smartphone application. The exterior includes a black styling package and 20-inch black alloy wheels.
Safety features include the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) 4.0 suite. Updated radar and camera systems extend forward detection range by 1.7 times and increase horizontal coverage by 15%, enabling earlier detection of vehicles, pedestrians, and surrounding traffic conditions. The system includes full-speed dynamic radar cruise control (DRCC), forward cross traffic alert (FCTA), and driver monitoring camera (DMC).
The RAV4 PHEV combines electrified powertrain technology, performance capability, comfort features, and safety systems. The model will be available for public viewing and test drives at Toyota dealerships nationwide from this weekend.
