UMW Toyota targets 88,000 units in vehicle sales
Bernama, 6 Mar '10

UMW Toyota Motor is targeting 88,000 units in vehicle sales this year, an increase of 6,000 units from last year.

Its president Kuah Kock Heng said the company had targeted a market share of 16% this year, up from 15.4% last year. This, Kuah said, was in line with the recovering business and consumer sentiments.

"For the first two months of this year, we have put almost 13,000 new vehicles on the road," he told reporters after the launch of the company's new Puchong Jaya service centre by chairman Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin on 5th March.

He also said that the Toyota Vios, Camry and Hilux remained as the company's most popular models.

Earlier in his speech, Kuah said UMW Toyota had allocated RM 170 million (US$ 51 million) for capital expenditure to improve its facilities in sales, service, logistics and manufacturing. "All these upgrading and expansion are to cater for the increased Toyota population and further enhance customer satisfaction," he said.

UMW Toyota currently has 60 service centres throughout the country.

Kuah said the company set a new record when it serviced more than one million units of Toyota vehicles last year, compared to 900,000 units from previous year.

For the new service centre, the company had invested about RM 24 million to purchase the land and equip the centre with the latest facilities and capacity to service up to 145 cars per day, he said.
