Volkswagen to end Touareg production in 2026 with Final Edition

The Volkswagen Touareg is scheduled to conclude production in 2026 with the introduction of a new Final Edition special variant, which is expected to arrive in Australian showrooms in 2026.
Specifically, petrol and diesel-engine versions of the Touareg will be discontinued, potentially paving the way for an electric successor.
Order books for the Touareg Final Edition in Europe will remain open until March 2026, with prices starting from AUD 134,405 (US$ 87,225) in Germany. Australian deliveries are expected to commence in 2026.
The Final Edition package does not include additional equipment or a significantly revised visual design, the German manufacturer has rather chosen to adopt a more subtle approach, featuring Final Edition insignia throughout the vehicle.
The Final Edition lettering will be laser-engraved on the rear door window surrounds and embossed on the leather gear lever. It will also appear on the Touareg's illuminated dashboard trim in front of the front-seat passenger, beneath the air vents, and on the illuminated sill plates.
The sole equipment modification is the addition of interior ambient illumination on trim levels that do not already include it. The German automaker in its press release of the Final Edition stated, "production of the Touareg combustion engine model ends in 2026." A replacement for the Toureg has not been confirmed yet.
While the Volkswagen Group has not identified a successor, the phrasing leaves the possibility open for a high-end model within the company's ID electric car range, potentially adopting the Touareg name.
Other models that share the Touareg platform, including the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne, and Bentley Bentayga, are expected to continue in production.
A new-generation Cayenne, based on the current vehicle, is in development alongside a mechanically unrelated electric model, while Audi is preparing a replacement for the current Q7.
