Volvo XC Classic officially launched in China
Car News China, 16 Sep '14

The new Volvo XC Classic has been officially launched in the Chinese car market.

Pricing starts at 548,900 yuan and ends at 638,900 yuan (US$ 89,000-104,000).

The XC Classic is a continuation of the first-generation XC90 and is being manufactured in China in a new Geely-funded factory in Daqing in Heilongjiang Province.

Production of the XC Classic is scheduled to run for four years, with a facelift after two years. The lone engine option is the T5 2.5-litre inline five-cylinder turbocharged petrol, mated to a 5-speed automatic sending power to all four wheels. Earlier on, media sources had reported that the engine was tuned up to 220 PS, but the official announcement says the engine delivers just 210 PS.

The new 2015 Volvo XC90 will be imported into China starting in the second half of 2015. Pricing will start at a 818,000 yuan or US$ 133,000.

The only thing that changed on the XC Classic is the badge - it now says 'Volvo Asia Pacific'. This badge sits on all China-made Volvos and the name itself indicates Geely has serious plans for export.
