On August 27th, Xpeng launched the Mona M03 electric sedan at a press conference in Beijing.
The price range is lower than figures that has previously leaked on social media. The car will be available in three versions priced between CNY 119,800 and 155,800 (US$ 16,800 - 21,850). The three versions are:
- 515 km long battery life: CNY 120,000 (US$ 170,000)
- 620 km long battery life: CNY 130,000
- 580 km Max: CNY 155,800
Deliveries of the Max version will not begin until after the Chinese New Year in 2025, but deliveries of the other two versions will commence in September, 2024. When the Xpeng Mona M03 enters pre-sales, no substantial details about the interior were announced, but some information leaked on social media before the launch.
The M03 adopts a Tesla Model 3-style minimalist layout, lacking an instrument panel and a head-up display. Instead, all information is displayed on a centrally mounted 15.6-inch infotainment screen powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip with 16GB RAM. The system and screen support 360-degree panoramic images and real-time 3D perception-rendered maps.
Xpeng also offers numerous options, including a pluggable instrument panel for CNY 599 (US$ 84), a fragrance dispenser, an adjustable soft pillow for the headrest with memory foam waist support, and an ice crystal sunshade.
The car features minimal physical buttons, with the two-spoke steering wheel having only two scroll wheels. To compensate for the lack of buttons, the car can be controlled via gesture control and voice commands. It has four voice zones, supporting up to 20 seconds of continuous dialogue with multiple instructions executed simultaneously.
Xpeng Mona M03 includes an 18 PSS advanced speaker system with Compose 7.1.4 panoramic sound. It comes standard with a 1.22 square meter panoramic sunroof featuring low-E laminated glass, providing 99.9% protection against ultraviolet rays and 97.6% protection against infrared rays.
Three interior colours options are available: morning mist grey, mid-day blue, and night grey.
It offers 621 litres of trunk space, accommodating one 28-inch and four 20-inch suitcases without adjusting the seats. The space expands to 1602 litres with the seats folded down, featuring 4:6 split-folding and reclining rear seats. The front seats are leather and offer both heating and ventilation.
The Mona M03 measures 4780 mm in length, 1896 mm in width, and 1445 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2815 mm, making it slightly larger than the Model 3.
It is available in five colours: Xinghan rice, Xingyao blue, night black, nebula white, and Xingque grey. Only the base 515 km range version uses the less powerful 140 kW motor.
The other versions use a more powerful 160 kW motor, and all cars are front-wheel drive. Maximum torque is 225 Nm for the 515 km range version and 250 Nm for the others.
All versions use lithium iron phosphate blade batteries from BYD subsidiary FinDreams. The 515 km range version has a 51.8 kWh battery pack, while the other two versions use a 62.2 kWh pack.
Despite using the same battery pack, the car has either a 620 km range in the standard version or a lower 580 km range for the Max version, presumably due to additional weight.
Mona M03 comes standard with 2 millimetre wavelength radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 7 cameras offering L2 intelligent driving capability. The company claims the car has the strongest perception ability in its class and the best automatic parking features, including 100% coverage of high-frequency parking scenarios and a 95% parking success rate.
The Max version, available after the Chinese New Year in 2025, will feature high-end intelligent driving capabilities within the CNY 200,000 (US$ 28,100) price range.
The company suggests that this version may offer XNGP but has not confirmed details, only stating there will be no limitations and it will be usable nationwide.
