Malaysia is expected to receive a new BYD sedan following clarification regarding the brand's "6" model.
A teaser image released by BYD Sime Motors revealed a distinctive rear light signature, indicating that the vehicle corresponds to the BYD Qin L EV in China.
The BYD Qin L was launched in China earlier this year as part of the Dynasty series, which is already represented in Malaysia by the Atto 2 (previously marketed as the Yuan Up) and the Atto 3 (previously sold as the Yuan Plus).
The model is anticipated to be marketed in Malaysia under a different name that includes the number "6."
It measures 4,720 mm in length, 1,880 mm in width, and 1,495 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,820 mm.
Compared with the BYD Seal currently available in Malaysia, it is slightly shorter, marginally taller, slightly wider, and has a more compact wheelbase.
The exterior design adopts BYD's 'Loong Face' design language, in contrast to the ocean-themed design of the Seal.
The front features elements similar to the smaller Atto 2, while the rear includes BYD's 'infinity ring' taillight signature within a full-width light bar.
On the inside it includes an infotainment display available in 12.8-inch or 15.6-inch configurations, with an 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster standard across all variants. Other features include a wireless charging pad, a centre-console refrigerator, an eight-speaker audio system, and 24 storage compartments, including a front boot (frunk).
In China, the Qin L is offered in three variants with two rear-wheel drive powertrain options. The base variant is equipped with a 149 PS (110 kW) motor producing 220 Nm of torque, powered by a 46.08 kWh battery, providing a range of 470 km under the CLTC cycle.
The two higher-tier variants feature a 217 PS (160 kW) motor generating 330 Nm of torque, paired with a 56.64 kWh battery, delivering a CLTC range of 545 km.
All variants support fast charging, with a 30-80% charge achievable in 24 minutes according to the official brochure.
In China, the Qin L is priced between RMB 119,800 and RMB 139,800 (US$ 16,800-19,600).
If introduced in Malaysia, it is expected to be positioned below the updated Seal, which is priced between MYR 179,800 and MYR 199,800 (US$ 42,500-47,300).
