Chinese new energy technology company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL) is considering ASEAN as a market for power batteries.
A CATL spokesman said the company viewed ASEAN as a market with potential for future growth.
"Currently, we are actively promoting cooperation related to South-East Asia," he said during a media visit to the company's facilities today.
On potential cooperation in the battery sector, he said CATL could explore various forms of collaboration, including investing in or jointly building factories in ASEAN countries.
"For example, we can invest in building factories there, or we can cooperate in building factories in ASEAN countries. There can also be cooperation with car companies," he said.
Headquartered in Ningde, Fujian Province, CATL is principally engaged in the research and development, production and sale of power batteries and energy storage batteries.
The company has 28 battery manufacturing bases worldwide and sells its products in 74 countries and regions. As of June 2026, the cumulative global installation of CATL's power batteries had exceeded 28.65 million units.

CATL has six research and development (R&D) centres in Ningde, Liyang, Shanghai, Xiamen, Hong Kong and Munich, Germany, with a research team comprising about 23,000 members.
In 2025, CATL's total R&D investment reached CNY 22.1 billion, accounting for a continuously rising proportion of its revenue. The company's cumulative R&D investment exceeded CNY 100 billion (US$ 14.9 billion) over the past decade.
In the energy storage sector, CATL's energy storage battery shipments reached 121 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in 2025, accounting for 30.4% of the global market. The company held the largest share of the global market for five consecutive years from 2021 to 2025, with more than 3,000 cumulative global application projects.
