Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) is preparing several new models for launch by the end of 2026.
The move is part of the company's strategy to respond to competition in the Indonesian automotive market. Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) Marketing Director Bansar Maduma stated that Toyota's performance increased during the first eight months of 2026. Sales were also supported by the contribution of electrified vehicles to the company's portfolio.
According to data from the Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo), Toyota recorded a market share of 29.3% between January and August 2026. This represented a 9% year-on-year (YoY) increase compared with the same period in the previous year.
"Toyota's journey in 2026 isn't over yet. We still have several models we'll be launching by the end of the year to meet the increasingly diverse needs and expectations of the Indonesian people," Bansar said in Jakarta, as quoted on September 24th, 2026.
However, Bansar has not revealed which models Toyota will launch by the end of the year. He said that developments in the industry are giving consumers more choices in terms of products and technology. "So, please wait. Currently, the automotive industry in Indonesia is growing. Increasing trends, technologies, and choices are making customers more selective in seeking mobility solutions," he said.
In terms of sales, demand for Toyota vehicles remains driven by seven-passenger multipurpose vehicles (MPVs) and sport utility vehicles (SUVs). Models contributing to sales include the Kijang Innova and Zenix, Avanza and Veloz, Calya, and Rush.
Bansar said that vehicle sales are also affected by several external factors, including economic growth and changes in public confidence regarding vehicle purchases. Toyota is also expanding its range of electrified vehicles, particularly hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs).
The development of hybrid vehicles is one of the company's approaches to expanding electrification technology options in the Indonesian market. Meanwhile, combined sales of Toyota and Lexus electrified vehicles had increased by 86% compared with the same period in the previous year.
Toyota has invested more than IDR 100 trillion (US$ 5.6 billion) in Indonesia. Approximately 90% of Toyota vehicles sold domestically are produced locally, with a local content level of around 70-80%.
