Changan Automobile has registered several trademarks and product names in Vietnam, including its new-energy vehicle brand Deepal, indicating preparations for a potential entry into the Vietnamese market. The registrations include the S05 and S07 models.
Data from a database of trademark registrations in Vietnam shows that company has applied to register several brands and product names as the Chinese automaker develops a potential manufacturing and distribution presence in the country.
In early 2025, Changan Automobile signed a cooperation agreement with Kim Long Motor to invest in a plant in Hue City, central Vietnam, to manufacture five- to seven-seat passenger cars. This has raised the possibility that Kim Long Motor could distribute Deepal vehicles in Vietnam and potentially assemble them locally once the plant becomes operational.
However, Kim Long Motor has yet to officially announce plans involving Deepal or the Changan models it expects to introduce in Vietnam.
Among the registered trademarks are the S05 and S07. Both are C-segment SUVs and are offered as new-energy vehicles with battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrain options.
S05
The S05 has dimensions comparable to those of the Honda CR-V, although its wheelbase is slightly longer. The model features flush door handles and aerodynamically optimised wheels. The cabin does not have a conventional instrument cluster and instead uses an augmented-reality head-up display, while a 15.4-inch central touchscreen is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor.
The BEV version uses a rear-mounted electric motor producing 175 kW, paired with a 56.12 kWh battery pack. It has a driving range of 510 km, while its 3C fast-charging system can charge the battery from 30%-80% in around 15 minutes.
The EREV version uses a 160 kW electric motor paired with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that serves as a generator. It has a 27.28 kWh battery, providing an electric-only range of 200 km and a total driving range of 1,234 km.
S07
The S07 is larger than the S05 and has an angular design, with frameless doors, flush door handles and wing-shaped daytime running lights. The cabin features a 15.6-inch central touchscreen with a smart tilt mechanism, a 14-speaker Sony sound system and a panoramic sunroof.
The BEV version is equipped with an electric motor producing up to 192 kW (262 PS), with two battery options of 66.8 kWh and 79.97 kWh. The corresponding driving ranges are 520 km and 620 km, respectively.
The EREV version uses a 175 kW electric motor paired with a 1.5-litre petrol engine that serves as a generator. It is equipped with a 39.05 kWh battery, providing an electric-only range of 285 km and a total driving range of more than 1,100 km.
