GWM Philippines has introduced and previewed several vehicles in recent months.

At this year's Manila International Auto Show (MIAS), the company previewed three models: the Haval H7 PHEV, the GWM Ora 5 EV and the Tank 700 4x4 PHEV.

GWM subsequently launched the Haval H7 HEV/PHEV with a starting price of less than PHP 1.3 million (US$ 21,215) and added the Ora 5 EV to its website with a range of up to 580 km. GWM Philippines is preparing to introduce several new models this year and potentially into next year.

The Ora 5 is expected to make its Philippine debut soon, while GWM may also consider introducing its PHEV variant. The Ora 5 compact SUV is set to receive a plug-in hybrid version after China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) published details of the model ahead of its official debut in China.

Based on the MIIT's recent publications, the Ora 5 PHEV will be longer than the EV version. According to data released by the agency, the Ora 5 PHEV will measure 4,758 mm long, 1,833 mm or 1,844 mm wide, depending on the configuration, and 1,630 mm tall, with a 2,720 mm wheelbase. By comparison, the Philippine-spec Ora 5 EV measures 4,471 mm in length while retaining the other exterior dimensions.

The reason for the additional length has not been explained, although it could be related to the addition of a fuel tank alongside the battery pack that powers the electric motor. The Ora 5 PHEV largely retains the exterior styling of the EV variant but features a different tailgate and taillight design. Unlike the hatchback-like taillights of the Ora 5 EV, the PHEV model gets full-width LED taillights.

The Ora 5 PHEV will reportedly be available with 18-inch alloy wheels and two tyre sizes: 215/50 and 225/60.

It's powertrain will reportedly be called 'Hi2', which is likely derived from the brand's Hi4-T and Hi4-Z PHEV technologies found in Haval vehicles. The system consists of a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine producing 156 PS.

The output of the electric motor and battery capacity have yet to be revealed, along with the electric-only and combined system ranges. Official filings confirm that the model will use a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The Ora 5 PHEV could offer more than 100 km of electric-only range and potentially more than 1,000 km of total range with a fully charged battery and a full tank of fuel. These figures have yet to be confirmed.

With the GWM Ora 5 PHEV already revealed by China's MIIT, an official launch in China could follow soon. Its potential availability alongside the EV version in the Philippines, however, has yet to be confirmed.
