Implementing its new brand strategy, China's Chery plans to organise its product lines under four nameplates.

Three of them are familiar - QQ for mini models, Fulwin for subcompact and compact sedans (hatchbacks or notchbacks), and Tiggo for SUVs.

The fourth is a new tag, Arrizo, which in combination with specific numbers will designate larger compact and midsize Chery sedans (in Chinese, Arrizo will correspond with the name "Ruizhen").

The first model to bear the Arrizo nameplate, as we learned lately, will be the production version of the α7 concept from the 2013 Shanghai motor show. While the concept was recently launched, Arrizo 7, as the production model is to be called, has been in development for more than two years under the code of M16. Last December, we exposed it as Chery "A4," a designation that has been dropped as the company has decided to re-name all A- and E-series models.

In substance Arrizo 7 is an enlarged A3, with which it shares a platform. Sitting on a 2700mm wheelbase (compared with A3's 2550mm), it has a stance 4652mm long, 1825mm wide, and 1483mm high. Both front and rear suspensions are of the independent type, enlisting MacPherson struts and multi-links respectively.

Weighing about 1.35 ton, the new Chery compact sedan will be propelled by a 1.6L DVVT engine (SQRE4G16), which can develop a maximum of 93kW（126PS）of power at 6150rpm and 160Nm of torque at 3900rpm. Two gearboxes will be provided, a 5MT and CVT.

Arrizo 7 is expected to hit showrooms in late August. It is likely to be priced between 90,000-110,000 Yuan (US$ 14,600-17,900).
