Great Wall Motor, in collaboration with Sazgar Engineering Works, has commenced CKD assembly of the Tank 500 in Pakistan.
This development makes Pakistan the first country outside China to locally assemble the Tank 500 Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV). The announcement was made during a ceremony attended by senior government officials and Chinese diplomatic representatives, indicating Pakistan's role in the automotive and new-energy vehicle sector.
The Tank 500 is GWM's flagship SUV, combining hybrid technology with features focused on performance and comfort.
Its local assembly is part of the company's operations in the Pakistani market and aligns with broader industry shifts towards electrification.
Over the past five years, GWM has expanded its presence in Pakistan through its partnership with Sazgar Engineering Works Limited. Models such as the HAVAL H6 have supported the brand's presence in the country's SUV segment.
Mr. Walker, Country Manager of GWM Pakistan, stated that the CKD rollout reflects the company's assessment of market conditions in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mian Asad Hameed, CEO of Sazgar Engineering Works, referred to localisation and technology transfer in relation to the country's automotive industry.
As global automakers expand into hybrid and electric vehicle markets, the local assembly of the Tank 500 PHEV places Pakistan among the countries involved in this segment.
