Kia to launch new Carens, Sorento variants in 2026

Kia Indonesia has confirmed plans to introduce a battery electric vehicle (BEV) in the multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) segment.
The model, identified as the Carens EV, will be produced locally in Indonesia, marking a step in the company's electrification efforts in the domestic market.
Presentation materials indicated that a locally produced MPV EV is scheduled for November 2026, reflecting plans to offer family-oriented electric vehicles at competitive price points through local manufacturing.
Chief Executive Officer of Kia Sales Indonesia, Jong Sung Park stated that the 2026-2027 period will be significant for the company's operations in Indonesia as it restructures its product portfolio.
"This year until 2027 will be a busy one for Kia in Indonesia. We are restructuring our product lineup by introducing several new models that better suit market needs," he said on April 28th.
In addition to the Carens EV, several other models are scheduled for phased introduction. In 2026, the company plans to introduce a manual transmission variant of the Carens to expand its market reach beyond Jakarta.
In November 2026, alongside the MPV EV, Kia is expected to introduce the PV5, a van-based electric vehicle intended for both commercial and family mobility requirements.
Preparations are also underway for the latest generation of the Sorento, which will be offered in hybrid and diesel variants, although the launch timeline has not been confirmed.
In 2027, the company plans to introduce an internal combustion engine (ICE) MPV with a seven-passenger configuration. Additional plans include the introduction of new models in the B-SUV segment and a double-cab pickup truck.
Beyond product expansion, company intends to increase its dealership network, with plans to open up to 40 new outlets within the year to improve service coverage.
This strategy reflects a shift towards broader market participation in Indonesia. The introduction of the locally produced Carens EV enables the company to enter the electric MPV segment, which currently has limited competition, and to compete with other manufacturers in the EV market.
With new product introductions, electrification initiatives, and network expansion, company aims to strengthen its presence in Indonesia's automotive sector in the coming years.
