Earlier in 2024, at the Beijing Auto Show, Hongqi unveiled four new concept cars, with some appearing close to production, including the E009.

This vehicle was showcased under the Hongqi New Energy brand, suggesting it could be a new addition to this division. Recently, the E009 has been seen undergoing testing.

It's light clusters appear to differ from those on the concept version displayed in Beijing, bearing a closer resemblance to those on the EH7. These lights have a straighter, more dagger-like design.

Due to the camouflage, it's yet unclear if the lights extend downwards like on the EH7 or stop at the fender as on the concept. A notable feature on the test car is the comb-like LED running lights, and an air inlet is visible below the front fender.

The car's side profile largely mirrors the E009 concept, featuring blacked-out multi-spoke wheels and concealed door handles. The door pillars are also blacked out, as seen on the concept.

At the rear, the Y-shaped tail light clusters remain, though the design appears to have softened from the concept, incorporating a ducktail design. A diffuser at the bottom of the fender adds a sporty touch.

It is expected to be based on the FME platform, like the Hongqi EH7. While specific dimensions are not yet known, the EH7 measures 4980 mm in length, 1915 mm in width, and 1490 mm in height, with a 3000 mm wheelbase. This suggests that the E009 might be slightly smaller.

Previous reports from media indicate that the new model will be equipped with an M190-150 kW silicon carbide reducer assembly, likely giving the motor a power output of 150 kW.

Hongqi, a brand under FAW and China's oldest car manufacturer, was once reserved for the country's top government officials. The brand has seen a resurgence in recent years, focusing on consumer-oriented models.

It introduced its New Energy brand at 2023's Shanghai Auto Show. Currently, only the EH7 is available for purchase, with the EHS7 expected to be released soon.

According to media sources, the production version of the E009 is not expected to go on sale until October 2025.
