Following a sharp rise in demand for its new Tucson SUV, Hyundai Mobil Indonesia (HMI) has decided to raise its sales target for the full year to 6,000 units, up from the previous 5,000 units.

"Target revision was done since the last quarter of this year. New Tucson is selling enough to achieve the target until the end of the year," said Erwin Djajadiputra, Vice President of marketing, sales and aftersales, HMI.

Mr. Erwin further added that the new model had already recieved 420 bookings by early August. For the new Tucson, which costs Rp 285 million (US$ 31,600) in Jakarta, a sales target of 1,000 units has been set by the year end. Besides the new Tucson, Hyundai is also relying on the sale of the i10, i20, H1 and Avega models.

Through January-July 2010, Hyundai's sales reached about 2,200 units. Compared with January-July 2009, when it had sold only 1,268 units, this is a growth of 73.5%.

Erwin said Jakarta currently accounts for 40% of Hyundai's sales in the country. "Therefore we will increase our number of dealers from the current 43," he said.
