Singapore will soon welcome a new automotive brand, with reports confirming that Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer IM Motors will launch its first model in the market in 2025.
Headquartered in Shanghai, IM Motors was founded in December 2020 as a joint venture between Chinese automaker SAIC Motor and technology firms Zhangjiang Hi-Tech and Alibaba Group. The brand's name, "IM," stands for "Intelligence in Motion," indicating its aim to compete with established EV manufacturers, including Tesla.
IM Motors will be distributed in Singapore by the Eurokars Group, which also serves as the official dealer for SAIC-owned MG Motors.
The two brands will be positioned as related entities, with IM Motors targeting a more premium segment compared to MG Motors.
In China, IM Motors offers four fully-electric models: the L6 and L7 sedans, and the LS7 and LS6 coupe-SUVs. The LS6, the latest model, features a 900V electric architecture that supports fast charging.
The vehicle can achieve up to 570 km of range with a 15-minute charge, and it has a CLTC-rated range of 802 km.
It delivers 579 kW of power and 800 Nm of torque, enabling acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.48 seconds.
The entry of IM Motors into the Singaporean market follows other developments in the EV sector. Premium Automobiles has announced that it will introduce the Chinese premium EV brand Deepal, which will debut at the 2025 Singapore Motor Show with the S07, a fully-electric mid-sized SUV.
Additionally, Skywell, another brand entering the market in 2024, has appointed Alpine Automobiles as its official distributor.
