Data released by the Association of Indonesia Automotive Industries (GAIKINDO) showed that new passenger car sales in Indonesia increased by 22.1% compared with January and by 12.2% year-on-year in February 2026.
Japanese brands remained prevalent in the top 10, while Chinese manufacturers ranked sixth and seventh, supported by electric vehicle (EV) sales. BYD recorded year-on-year growth of 232.6%, representing an increase of nearly 280% compared with the same period last year, and held a 5.7% market share.
BYD's highest-selling model during the month was the Atto 1 (also known as the Dolphin), which was launched in Indonesia in October 2025. Since its launch, the model's sales have declined, with its market share decreasing from 12.7% to 4.6%.
Jaecoo entered the Indonesian car market in January last year. No comparative data from the previous year is available; however, the brand held a 3.7% market share. Its sales were mainly driven by the J5 model, which ranked as the eighth best-selling vehicle in February 2026.
The data indicates a gradual shift towards EV adoption in Indonesia.
