Li Auto delays launch of three all-electric SUVs to 2025

Li Auto, originally slated to release four all-electric vehicles in 2024, has delayed the launch of three SUVs-believed to be the M7, M8, and M9-to 2025. So far, only the Li Mega has launched.
Photographs that have emerged on social media have captured the three SUVs together, giving some insight into their design differences.
The photographs show the cars exiting a facility, likely in Turpan, Xinjiang province, for hot weather testing. While the exact size order of the vehicles is unclear, it appears the smallest vehicle is the rear car, likely the M7. The lead car matches an official photo from Li Auto's senior design director, Ben Baum, initially believed to be the M8.
However, the photographs suggest it might be the M9. The middle car's size is ambiguous, but it seems the higher the model number, the more the design resembles the Li Mega.
The M7 features a significantly steeper roofline and a smaller rear windshield compared to the other two SUVs. Unlike the L series, which has minimal design differences across models, the M series appears to offer more variation in rear light design and contours, despite the camouflaging in the photographs.
Li Auto cited the need to complete their supercharging network to enhance customer charging experiences as a primary reason for the delay. Like the Li Mega, the new SUVs are expected to feature 5C charging capability, allowing them to charge from 10 to 80% in approximately 10 minutes and 36 seconds with a 5C charger.
Currently, the company operates over 700 supercharging stations with more than 3,260 chargers. They plan to expand to over 2,000 stations by year-end.
Another reason given for the delay was the need for stores to display multiple models. However, considering the existing L series and the Mega, a more plausible reason could be the underwhelming sales of the Li Mega, which have fallen short of the company's expectations.
The company's decision to delay the launch of the M7, M8, and M9 SUVs to 2025 is influenced by the need to complete their supercharging network and potentially to reassess following the Li Mega's poor sales performance. The upcoming SUVs are expected to maintain the brand's focus on high efficiency and advanced charging capabilities.
