Mahindra unveils 'GenZe' in USA
Indian Autos Blog, 10 May '14

The Mahindra Group unveiled its first-ever electric two-wheeler, the GenZe, in Ann Arbor, Michigan on May 9th.

The GenZe has a range of around 30 miles or 48 kilometres on a full charge.

With a top speed of 30 mph or 48 km/h, people of most states in the US won't need a license to ride the GenZe.

The scooter will be manufactured in Mahindra's facility near the city that has a capacity to assemble 9,000 units a year that can be ramped-up to 20,000 when required, the company said.

The GenZe is another product conceived in Silicon Valley. The vehicle was developed in Palo Alto, California and is designed, engineered and manufactured in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

In the GenZe, the traditional instrument cluster makes way for a weather-proof, Bluetooth-enabled, 7-inch touch-screen display which shows how much charge remains, speed, approximate range and other parameters.

The company also opened the Mahindra North American Technical Centre.

The centre of excellence is "focused on providing Mahindra with globally competitive product designs and technologies in support of its future product portfolio."

At present, the centre has 40 engineers with complete vehicle design capabilities, the company said.

It can accommodate a total of 125 engineers and it works in collaboration with Mahindra's entire product development team.
