Mazda, Ford inject US$ 26 million into Thai AutoAlliance plant
themotorreport.com.au, 26 Apr '12

Partners Ford and Mazda have announced a new investment of just over US$ 26 million in their AutoAlliance production plant in Thailand.

The funds injection will boost production of the new Mazda BT-50 and Ford Ranger pickups, destined for the Thai domestic market and export markets, including Australia.

The upgrades will boost annual utility vehicle production capacity to 140,000, with the potential for 195,000 units when including complete knockdown kits (incomplete vehicles shipped out for final assembly elsewhere).

Including Mazda2, Mazda3, Fiesta and Everest SUV production, the plant's total production capacity will increase to 240,000 units.

The new investment boosts the partnership's AutoAlliance Thailand commitment to nearly US$ 2 billion since operations began in 1995, and follows a US$ 350 million upgrade in 2010 for BT-50 and Ranger production.
