Mitsubishi RVR crossover to debut at Beijing show
Gasgoo, 2 Mar '10

For its RVR compact crossover to become a true global model, Mitsubishi Motors will introduce the new CUV to China, now the world's biggest auto market, and the vehicle will make its debut at the 2010 Beijing auto show in late April, media sources have reported.

The Mitsubishi RVR is now on sale in Tokyo and will go to the U.S. badged as the Outlander Sport this fall. Mitsubishi has already confirmed its plans to sell the model in Europe with the ASX nameplate and will present it at the upcoming 2010 Geneva Auto Show.

The new CUV will also go to China soon, where it will make its premiere at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show which will start on April 23rd. Global and local automakers will display their new models at the week-long show, one of the two biggest biennial auto events in China (with the other in Shanghai).

In Japan, where the RVR starts off at US$ 19,700, Mitsubishi is targeting sales of 1,500 units per month for the first year. The Japan-market RVR comes with a 1.8-litre engine and continuously variable transmission, plus the choice of front-wheel drive or full-time 4WD.

Mitsubishi makes vehicles in China with two local partners - one is SUV-making Changfeng Motor which was acquired by Guangzhou Auto last year but a small share of which is still held by Mitsubishi; the other is Fujian South East Motor, where Mitsubishi's sporty sedan Lancer EX is made, among other models.
