Omoda & Jaecoo Motor has stated that it plans to introduce the Jaecoo J5, as preparations continue for its market introduction in the Philippines.
Just before the end of January, Omoda & Jaecoo Motor Philippines (OJPH) announced the launch of the model.
The Jaecoo J5 will be positioned as the brand's B-segment SUV and will be equipped with a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) powertrain.
It will follow the introduction of the J7 PHEV within OJPH's electrified vehicle line-up.
According to the initial specifications released, the J5 HEV has a combined system output of 221 PS and 295 Nm of torque.
The vehicle is rated to average 5.3 litres per 100 km (18.8 km/ litre) and has an estimated driving range of more than 1,000 km.
Recent regulatory approval provides additional details regarding the powertrain. OJPH has obtained clearance for a passenger vehicle fitted with a petrol engine with a displacement of 1,499 cc and a reference weight of 1,636 kg, indicating a relatively higher kerb weight for the segment.
As the J5 is positioned as a B-SUV, it is expected to share its platform with the Omoda C5. This suggests the use of a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 156 PS and 230 Nm of torque.
When combined with an electric motor and battery pack, the hybrid system is expected to achieve the stated output figures of 221 PS and 295 Nm.
With regulatory approval in place, the Jaecoo J5 HEV is expected to be introduced to the Philippine market in the near term.
