Sunwoda to invest US$ 1.5 billion in country's largest EV battery plant

Narit, Secretary General of the Thailand Board of Investment (BOI), stated that Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Pichai chaired a meeting of the Policy Committee on Enhancing the Competitiveness of National Target Industries on the same day.
The meeting approved the investment application of Sunwoda Automotive Energy Technology Thailand, a subsidiary of Sunwoda, a Chinese company listed among the world's top ten manufacturers of EV batteries and energy storage systems.
The company plans to establish its largest overseas battery cell production facility in Thailand, with an investment exceeding THB 50 billion (US$ 1.5 billion).
He confirmed that the company will construct two factories in Chonburi Province, which are expected to employ over 4,000 Thai personnel, including 900 engineers and researchers.
The production lines are scheduled to begin operations within this year. In addition, the company is considering starting battery recycling operations in Thailand. This initiative aims to support the EV supply chain and battery degradation management for future EV users.
Sunwoda's investment in Thailand represents an expansion of its manufacturing activities in the EV battery and energy storage system industry.
