BYD's upcoming electric vehicle manufacturing facility in Subang, West Java, is approaching the final stages of preparation before production begins, according to an Indonesian automotive publication.
The plant, located within the Subang Smartpolitan industrial zone, forms part of the Chinese automaker's regional manufacturing plans as it expands its presence across Southeast Asia.
Reports indicate that the facility is designed to produce up to 150,000 vehicles annually once fully operational. Ahead of the start of production, BYD has been carrying out operational trials and equipment checks to ensure that its manufacturing systems and assembly processes function as intended.
These final preparations typically involve validating the production line, calibrating machinery, and conducting trial runs before vehicles are built at scale.
Once operational, the Subang factory will contribute to BYD's operations in Indonesia, which is one of the company's markets in the region.
In Malaysia, BYD had previously revealed plans to establish a CKD assembly plant in Tanjung Malim, Perak. The project, announced in August 2025, is set to be located within the KLK TechPark industrial development.
However, since the initial announcement, no further updates have been provided regarding the progress of the Malaysian facility, including details on construction timelines or which model could be assembled locally first.
With BYD's Indonesian plant moving closer to production readiness, attention may turn to when similar developments might be announced for the company's planned Malaysian assembly operation.
