Volvo Cars has introduced two electric vehicles, the EX90 and the ES90, in the Philippines.
The launch was handled locally by Hariphil Asia Resources and adds to the country's premium electric vehicle segment. The EX90 is positioned as the successor to the XC90 and features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system producing about 462 PS and 770 Nm of torque.
It is powered by a 111 kWh battery that provides a driving range of up to 600 kilometres under the WLTP cycle. The vehicle also supports DC fast charging of up to 350 kW, enabling a charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 22 minutes.
The SUV also includes driver-assistance technologies, including a roof-mounted lidar sensor that operates alongside cameras, radar and ultrasonic sensors to support safety and potential automated driving functions.
Built on a dedicated electric platform, the EX90 features a flat-floor layout and a three-row, seven-seat cabin. The EX90 Ultra BEV is priced from PHP 5.99 million (US$ 101,770).
The ES90, meanwhile, is built on an 800 V architecture designed to enable faster charging and improved efficiency. The electric sedan offers a claimed driving range of up to 700 kilometres under the WLTP standard.
Its fastback body design has a drag coefficient of 0.25, while the traditional grille has been replaced by a closed front fascia housing cameras and radar sensors.
Inside, the ES90 features an interior with a large touchscreen interface, a digital instrument cluster and limited physical controls. The ES90 Ultra BEV is priced from PHP 5.265 million in the Philippine market.
Electric vehicle adoption in the Philippines remains at an early stage due to limited charging infrastructure outside major urban areas.
Models such as the EX90 and ES90 reflect the continued introduction of electric vehicles in Southeast Asia. Other models, including the smaller EX30, are expected to be introduced as the market develops.
