Billion Electric Mobility (BillionE), an E-Mobility-as-a-Service (eMaaS) platform, in partnership with Hindalco Industries' Birla Copper Division, has launched Gujarat's first heavy-duty electric freight corridor.
The 160-kilometre corridor between Dahej and Asoj has been introduced to facilitate electric freight movement and support industrial logistics.
The initiative involves the phased deployment of 15 Ashok Leyland electric trucks, each with a 55-ton capacity. Ten trucks have been introduced initially, with a further five scheduled to be added within three months. The project is intended to reduce fuel-related emissions and lower dependence on imported oil.
"Launching this heavy-duty electric freight corridor is a relevant development in the movement of goods," said Mr Sanjeev Kulkarni, CEO, BillionE Mobility. "The partnership with Hindalco is aimed at improving transport efficiency, reducing emissions, and lowering operating costs. This is the initial stage of developing a wider network of electric freight corridors."
Commenting on the initiative, Mr Bishnu Agarwal, Functional Head, F&C Copper Business, Hindalco Industries, stated, "As logistics are an integral part of our operations, transitioning to EVs is expected to reduce emissions and improve operational performance."
BillionE will utilise ChargeZone's charging infrastructure, with stations located in Karjan, Bharuch, and along the route. After the rollout, additional electric trucks are planned for secondary transport across Vapi, Daman, and Silvassa.
