Australia is set to receive updated versions of the 2026 Volkswagen Tiguan and Tayron family SUVs, with new safety and equipment features confirmed for the market.

Volkswagen Australia has confirmed that the Model Year 2026 (MY26) Tiguan and Tayron will receive an upgraded autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system with the inclusion of 'Turning Assistant 2.0' functionality.

The revised system can now detect traffic that is turning towards the driver, in addition to the current capability of identifying oncoming traffic travelling straight and vehicles turning across the path of oncoming traffic.

The Tiguan 110TSI Life and Tiguan 110TSI Elegance grades now come with 17-inch 'Venezia' and 18-inch 'Napoli' alloy wheels respectively, replacing the 19-inch 'Catania' wheels, which remain standard on the 150TSI Elegance. Volkswagen states that the smaller wheels improve ride quality for the 110TSI grades.

MY26 Tiguan Elegance and R-Line grades also gain illuminated front and rear Volkswagen emblems for the Australian market.

There are no changes to the recommended retail prices (RRPs) for the 2026 Tiguan and 2026 Tayron compared with their 2025 equivalents. The Australian Tiguan and Tayron ranges will expand with the introduction of plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variants, each offering an electric-only driving range of more than 100 kilometres on the WLTP laboratory test cycle.

These variants will compete with plug-in hybrid models such as the Mitsubishi Outlander, Mazda CX-60 and Toyota RAV4 in the mid-size SUV segment, and the Kia Sorento, Mazda CX-80 and BYD Sealion 8 in the large SUV segment.

Earlier in 2025, Volkswagen Australia indicated that it was assessing multiple configurations for the Tiguan and Tayron PHEVs, including Elegance and R-Line grades.

The 2026 Tiguan and 2026 Tayron petrol-only grades are now on sale in Australia.
