The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) hosted the "EGAT EV: Charge Up Your Business" seminar, attracting over 300 entrepreneurs interested in the electric vehicle (EV) charging station business.
Saiyan Pan Sang, EGAT's Assistant Governor for Business Development, opened the seminar by sharing insights on business opportunities, technology, and strategies in the expanding EV charging sector.
This initiative forms part of EGAT's broader commitment to supporting the nation's transition to electric vehicles.
During the event, participants explored various aspects of entering the EV charging station business, including the sale of charging equipment, installation, maintenance, and the potential for generating additional revenue from existing businesses. This comprehensive approach aims to strengthen the ecosystem surrounding electric vehicles in Thailand.
"Over the past four years, EGAT has actively promoted the use of electric vehicles in the country through services such as EleX by EGAT, and we have developed the EleXA application to cater to the needs of EV users," said Pan Sang. "Our goal is to enhance convenience in utilising electric vehicles and to strengthen the EV ecosystem with innovative solutions such as the BackEN EV management system, enabling all stakeholders to collaborate more efficiently across every stage of the supply chain."
The EleXA application allows users to locate charging stations and access real-time data regarding station functionality. Pan Sang emphasised that this system provides significant flexibility by supporting the use of multiple charger brands simultaneously, thereby improving service availability and efficiency.
Nattanan Thammaapala, EGAT's Director of Energy Innovation Business Management, reinforced the organisation's commitment to advancing knowledge and resources for business operators in the EV charging sector.
"We are dedicated to delivering expertise and experience while establishing a viable and beneficial EV Business Solutions framework for our clients, including the BackEN EV system, which is designed for comprehensive management of EV charging stations," stated Thammaapala.
The BackEN EV system allows real-time control and monitoring of charging stations, incorporating intelligent data analytics and reporting features to track usage. This enables businesses to adjust their strategies based on the insights gathered.
At present, more than 110 businesses operating commercial EV charging stations are using the BackEN EV system.
EGAT aims to expand its market reach to companies involved in solar energy solutions, service stations, and electrical system installation, encouraging these firms to view the EV sector as a significant growth opportunity.
To further enhance capabilities in the EV charging business, EGAT is launching the EGAT Academy in collaboration with vocational educational institutions. This initiative will offer certification courses specifically focused on electric vehicle service and maintenance, aiming to raise safety and operational standards within Thailand's EV ecosystem.
These initiatives reflect a collaborative effort between public, private, and civil sectors to promote sustainable growth in the electric vehicle market, ultimately improving accessibility and convenience for electric vehicle users.
