The Association of Indonesian Automotive Industries (Gaikindo) anticipates that the export market will provide support if domestic car sales remain weak throughout the current year.
Gaikindo Chairman Jongkie Sugiarto stated that car production by each authorised brand agent (APM) is influenced by demand in export destination countries.
Jongkie further indicated that Indonesia's car exports are expected to reach 500,000 units, exceeding the 472,194 units recorded in 2024.
He further added that the export market is dependent on the principal, as exports are initiated by the head office.
Export performance is also affected by the economic conditions of each destination country, including those in the ASEAN region, Latin America, Japan, and the Middle East.
Jongkie noted that if the economy of a destination country is weak, vehicle sales are likely to be lower, which may affect exports.
Toyota Motor Manufacturing Indonesia (TMMIN) has expressed confidence that its cumulative export target of 3 million units will be achieved and is expected to surpass projections by the end of 2025.
