Ahead of this year's Kuala Lumpur International Mobility Show (KLIMS), which will be open to the public from June 12-21 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), Kia Malaysia (KSM) has announced that it will showcase three electric vehicles (EVs) at the event.
The company's social media postings indicate that visitors will be able to get up close with the EV4, EV5 and PV5. At present, KSM does not have any EVs in its line-up, despite having commenced operations at the start of 2026. Prior to this, the company sold the EV9, although that model is now absent from the official website.
The EV4, which made its full debut last February in both sedan and hatchback body styles, is one of the vehicles set to appear at KLIMS. Both variants follow Kia's 'Opposites United' design philosophy, with standout cues including the 'EV Tiger Face', gently creased surfaces, a vertical 'Star Map' lighting signature and flush door handles. Of the two body styles, the sedan features the more distinctive styling, although images posted by KSM suggest the hatchback will be the version displayed at the show.
The EV4 is built on the 400-volt version of the E-GMP (Electric-Global Modular Platform) and can be specified with either a 58.3-kWh (Base) or 81.4-kWh (Long Range) battery. WLTP-rated range figures stand at up to 430 km or 630 km for the sedan, while the hatchback offers up to 410 km or 590 km, depending on battery specification.
AC charging peaks at 11 kW, with a 10-100% state of charge (SoC) requiring five hours and 20 minutes for the Base variant or seven hours and 15 minutes for the Long Range version. DC fast charging can reach up to 305 kW, enabling a 10-80% SoC recharge in 29 minutes for the Base model and 31 minutes for the Long Range. Vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability is rated at 3.6 kW, while vehicle-to-grid (V2G) functionality supports up to 10 kW.
Regardless of battery choice, the EV4 is equipped with a front-mounted electric motor producing 204 PS (201 hp or 150 kW). This enables a 0-100 km/h sprint in either 7.4 seconds for the Base variant or 7.7 seconds for the Long Range model, with both versions capable of a top speed of 170 km/h.
The EV5, first revealed in August 2023, has since gone on sale in Thailand. Another product of Kia's 'Opposites United' design approach, the compact SUV is also based on the 400-volt E-GMP platform and is offered with three powertrain configurations. The entry-level Standard Range variant features a 64.2-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, delivering up to 400 km of WLTP-rated range and powering a front electric motor producing 218 PS (215 hp or 160 kW) and 310 Nm of torque.
Above this sits the Long Range variant, which retains the same electric motor but adopts an 88.1-kWh LFP battery for up to 555 km of range. In its home market, the EV5 received an update last October that replaced the battery with an 81.4-kWh nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) unit, resulting in a range of up to 530 km, although this change has yet to be introduced in Thailand.
Topping the range is the all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant, which retains the 88.1-kWh LFP battery while adding a rear electric motor producing 95 PS (94 hp or 70 kW) and 170 Nm. Combined system output stands at 313 PS (308 hp or 230 kW) and 480 Nm, while range is reduced to 500 km. Thailand currently offers all three configurations.
In terms of charging, the Standard Range variant supports a maximum AC charging input of 7 kW, with a 10-100% SoC requiring nine hours and 43 minutes. The Long Range and AWD variants can accept up to 11 kW, reducing charging time to eight hours and 10 minutes. DC fast charging is rated at 102 kW for the Standard Range and 141 kW for the Long Range and AWD models, with a 10-80% SoC recharge taking 36 or 38 minutes, respectively.
The final vehicle set to appear at KLIMS is the PV5, an electric van that was first previewed as a concept in January 2024 before a production-ready version was unveiled in February 2025. The PV5 forms part of Kia's purpose-built vehicle (PBV) line-up and is built on the E-GMP.S platform, a 400-volt skateboard-style EV architecture that supports multiple upper-body configurations on a common base.
As a result, the PV5 is available in both standard and long-body forms and can be configured for a variety of purposes, including passenger and cargo transportation. The van is front-wheel drive and powered by an electric motor producing 163 PS (161 hp or 120 kW) and 250 Nm. Available NCM battery options include a 51.5-kWh unit offering up to 296 km of WLTP-rated range and a 71.2-kWh unit capable of up to 416 km.
An 11-kW onboard AC charger enables a 10-100% SoC recharge in approximately five to 6.5 hours, while DC fast charging at up to 150 kW can replenish the battery from 10-80% SoC in less than 30 minutes. In certain markets, the PV5 is also available with a detuned electric motor and a smaller LFP battery.
The appearance of the EV4, EV5 and PV5 at KLIMS is expected to provide a clearer indication of Kia Malaysia's electrification strategy. Given recent policy changes affecting completely built-up (CBU) EVs, further details regarding the company's future plans for the Malaysian market may emerge during the show.
