Kia has commenced bookings for the Carens Clavis EV, its first electric vehicle manufactured in India, following the announcement of prices last week.
The new MPV can be booked for Rs. 25,000 (US$ 290), either online or at authorised dealerships, and will be retailed alongside the internal combustion engine (ICE) version of the Clavis.
Price and variants
- HTK+ - Rs. 1.799 million
- HTX - Rs. 2.049 million
- HTX Long Range - Rs. 2.249 million
- HTX+ Long Range - Rs. 2.449 million
Compared to the BYD e6 Max 7, which is priced between Rs. 2.69 million and Rs. 2.99 million, the Carens Clavis EV is considerably more affordable across all variants.
Range, battery and charging specifications
The Clavis EV is offered with two battery pack options: a 42kWh unit with an ARAI-certified range of 404km, and a larger 51.4kWh battery providing a range of 490km. The Standard Range (SR) battery powers a 137 PS motor, while the Long Range (LR) variant is equipped with a more powerful 173 PS unit.
Both electric motors are mounted on the front axle. According to Kia, the Clavis EV LR variants can accelerate from 0 to 100kph in 8.4 seconds.
Charging speeds and durations
Kia is offering 7.4kW and 11kW AC charging options. The 11kW charger can replenish the 42kWh battery in four hours and the 51.4kWh unit in four hours and 45 minutes (from 10 to 100 percent). Using a DC fast charger, Kia claims that both SR and LR battery packs can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in just 39 minutes.
Features and seating configuration
To align with its premium positioning, the Carens Clavis EV is equipped with a range of advanced features, including all-LED headlamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, dual 12.3-inch displays (infotainment touchscreen and digital driver's display), wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, an eight-speaker Bose audio system, and a panoramic sunroof. Additional features include ventilated front seats, a powered driver's seat, one-touch electric tumble for the second-row kerb-side seat, Boss Mode, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) charging capability.
Unlike the ICE-powered Clavis, which is offered in both six- and seven-seat configurations, the electric variant is available exclusively with the seven-seat layout.
Safety equipment
The safety suite includes Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), anti-lock braking system (ABS), a 360-degree camera system, hill-start assist, tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and all-wheel disc brakes. It should be noted that specific features may vary depending on the selected variant.
