MG Motor is expanding its premium electric vehicle portfolio with the introduction of the IM5, an electric sedan featuring updated design elements and driving technologies, targeting consumers seeking performance and comfort.
It has a body measuring 4,931 mm in length, 1,960 mm in width, and 1,474 mm in height, along with a wheelbase of 2,950 mm. The exterior includes frameless side windows, double-layered soundproof glass, flush door handles, and 20-inch alloy wheels. A panoramic sunroof is also included.
The cabin includes dual touchscreen displays, comprising a 26.3-inch digital display and a 10.5-inch central screen. The 7.1.4 spatial audio system features 20 speakers, including four roof-mounted units, supported by an RNC noise cancellation system. The front seats, referred to as POPO sofa seats, are ventilated; the driver's seat offers 12-way power adjustment, while the passenger seat provides six-way adjustability. Additional functions include a Pet Mode, which maintains cabin climate for pets, and a Nap Mode, which allows seat reclining. Magnetic accessory mounting points, referred to as IM MAG HUB, are also included.
The powertrain is based on an 800 V architecture. The Premium Long Range rear-wheel-drive variant, equipped with a single electric motor, produces a maximum output of 407 PS and 500 Nm of torque. It is powered by a 100 kWh battery supplied by CATL, delivering a claimed range of up to 860 kilometres on a full charge under the NEDC standard.
Charging capabilities include DC fast charging at rates of up to 396 kW, enabling the battery to charge from 10% to 80% in approximately 18 minutes. The vehicle also supports vehicle-to-load functionality, with a power output of up to 6.6 kW.
The chassis includes independent suspension with a double wishbone setup at the front and a multi-link arrangement at the rear, along with four-wheel steering. This configuration enables a minimum turning radius of 4.99 metres. Additional features include Crab Mode, which adjusts wheel angles for manoeuvrability in confined spaces, and a parking assistant capable of automatic parking and autonomous reversing for distances of up to 100 metres in dead-end environments.
The advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) integrates 24 sensors, cameras, and radar units, managed by a processing chip. The system includes functions such as braking assistance, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keeping assistance, and is designed to meet European safety standards.
The model is offered in five exterior colours: Matisse Red, Raphael Beige, Ares Black, Rembrandt Grey, and Nevis Blue. The interior adopts a two-tone grey and black theme. Official pricing is expected to be announced at the 2026 Motor Show.
