The Triumph Speed 400 was launched at the National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) Auto Show 2024.
Hansraj and Hulaschand will serve as the official distributor for the highly anticipated Triumph motorcycles in Nepal. They introduced the Triumph Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X to the Nepalese market at the show.
Triumph Motorcycles, a UK-based manufacturer, has significantly influenced the evolution of motorcycles. The Triumph Speed 400 perfectly combines high-performance engineering with the iconic styling that defines Triumph motorcycles.
Design
The front of the Triumph Speed 400 features a traditional round headlamp, paying homage to the brand's heritage, surrounded by a modern, sleek bezel with LED DRLs.
Flanking the headlamp, a pair of minimalist, circular rear-view mirrors mounted on black stalks enhances its retro appeal.
The golden front forks add a touch of premium quality and sturdiness, hinting at the Upside Down Suspension System. The radiator is openly visible at the belly of the motorbike, while the coolant container is positioned underneath.
From the side, the Triumph Speed 400 exhibits a perfect balance between vintage aesthetics and contemporary flair. The slightly stepped but not split seat is upholstered in high-quality material for added comfort and style.
The side view of the engine section showcases a beautiful design with decorative fins and a clean finish. Additionally, the brushed metal exhaust system, with a dual-tone finish, highlights its performance-oriented character.
At the rear, the Triumph Speed 400 continues the blend of classic and modern elements. The tail light is compact and elegantly integrated into the bike's design, accompanied by two small, clear-lens turn signals.
The display occupies most of the space and includes the Engine Management Light, Oil Pressure Light, Engine Temperature Warning Light, Traction Control, and ABS indicators. However, the RPM meter is somewhat hard to read due to its smaller size, and the bike lacks Bluetooth connectivity.
Performance
The Triumph Speed 400 is powered by a 398.15cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve, DOHC engine.
It generates a maximum power of 40 PS at 8,000 rpm and a maximum torque of 37.5 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and has a fuel capacity of 13 litres.
The Speed 400 features Bosch-designed Electronic Fuel Injection and an Electronic Throttle Control.
Despite concerns, the engine of the Triumph Speed 400 is distinct from those used in the KTM Duke 390 or the Dominar 400.
This significant engineering difference suggests a new engine design, as changing the chain drive layout would require substantial alterations to the engine design.
Additional details
The bike is equipped with Upside Down Big Piston Forks and a Gas Monoshock RSU for suspension duties. Its dimensions are 2,056 mm in length, 814 mm in width, and 1,084 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 1,377 mm. The Speed 400 has a ground clearance of 170 mm and a kerb weight of 176 kg.
Price in Nepal and availability
The price of the Triumph Speed 400 in Nepal is NPR 640,000 (US$ 4,800).
