Afma, 27 Mar '25
Xpeng has announced the commencement of electric vehicle (EV) distribution in Indonesia.
The distribution will be handled by Erajaya Active Lifestyle (ERAL), a major Indonesian distributor.
In addition to sales and distribution, localised production is set to begin later in 2025. The G6 SUV and X9 MPV, both configured with right-hand drive, will be among the first models to be manufactured in Indonesia.
Indonesia's EV expansion strategy
Indonesia has been making significant efforts to position itself as a global EV hub. The country aims to achieve a production output of 400,000 EVs by the end of 2025, with a long-term target of 1,000,000 EV units by 2035.
In 2025, several companies have collaborated with the Indonesian government to advance EV adoption and infrastructure development.
BYD has partnered with the government to establish EV charging ports and a dedicated EV manufacturing plant, scheduled to commence operations next year. Additionally, Toyota has partnered with the government to set up a hydrogen fuelling station in West Java.
