On September 4th, Hongqi introduced the HS3 PHEV SUV to the market, priced at CNY 159,800 (US$ 22,500).

This plug-in hybrid model is based on the existing petrol-powered variant of the HS3, with pricing for the petrol versions ranging between CNY 145,800 and 172,800 (US$ 20,500 - 24,300).

Design and features

The HS3 PHEV showcases the signature Hongqi family design with a bold, vertical waterfall grille adorned with thin chrome strips. The vertical Hongqi logo runs from the hood to the grille, contributing to its unique and recognizable front fascia. The headlights are split in design, and the daytime running lights feature a C-shaped pattern. At the rear, the vehicle continues with a through-type taillight design, and a PHEV logo indicates its hybrid identity.

The dimensions remain consistent with its petrol counterpart:

It is positioned as a compact SUV, the HS3 PHEV offers six paint options: phantom night black, alpine white, art grey, alpine white + smoked roof, yubai green + smoked roof, and bamboo moon blue + smoked roof.

Interior and technology

Inside, the HS3 PHEV retains a familiar layout, featuring a 12.6-inch central control screen and a 12.3-inch LCD instrument panel. A unique light blue interior color scheme is available exclusively for the plug-in hybrid variant.

The car comes equipped with the Qisi 1.0 intelligent network connection system developed by Hongqi, supporting OTA updates.

Additional features include a 253-colour ambient lighting system, dual-sided mobile phone wireless charging (40W + 15W), and electric adjustments for both the driver and co-pilot seats.

Front seat heating and ventilation, rear seat angle adjustments, a rear centre armrest with cup holders, and a sensor trunk are also included. Notably, the ventilated front seats and sensor trunk are exclusive to the hybrid version.

Powertrain and range

The HS3 PHEV is powered by a 1.5T engine paired with an electric motor. Key powertrain specifications include:
- 1.5T Engine: 124 kW (166 PS) and 258 Nm torque
- Electric Motor: 140 kW (188 PS) and 280 Nm torque

Its 18.4 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack from CATL offers an official pure electric range of 115 km (based on CLTC standards) and a comprehensive range of 1,100 km with a full tank and full charge. The vehicle supports a 3.3 kW external discharge function.
