Geely Motor outlines recovery plans, new models for 2026

Geely Motor Philippines (GMP) is seeking to rebuild its position in the local automotive market following a challenging period after its re-entry in 2019.
After five years, the brand faced difficulties linked to shortcomings under its previous distributor, which failed to sustain operations amid rapid growth. As a result, Geely's parent company assumed control of local operations in 2024.
The company maintains that it is not too late to recover lost ground.
As part of its efforts, Geely recently presented its future plans for the Philippine market during a visit to China. The programme included travel from Manila to Shanghai, followed by a transfer to Ningbo in Zhejiang Province, where one of Geely's manufacturing facilities is located.
The visit included a tour of the Zhejiang Geely Automobile factory. The facility features a largely automated production process, covering stamping, painting, and final assembly, supported by manual installation and quality checks for components requiring human intervention.
The itinerary also included a visit to Geely's research and development centre, where testing facilities simulate extreme weather conditions. Several camouflaged vehicles under development were also observed, although photography was not permitted.
Geely provided an overview of its current Philippine lineup, which includes the GX3 Pro A-segment crossover, Coolray subcompact crossover, Emgrand subcompact sedan, Okavango midsize crossover, and the fully electric EX5 compact crossover. The company also outlined upcoming product plans.
Confirmed for a 2026 launch are the Geely EX5 EM-i, a plug-in hybrid version of the EX5, and the fully electric Geely EX2 hatchback, which will compete in the same segment as other small electric hatchbacks in the market.
In addition, the company previewed several unnamed models planned for the Philippines. These include another plug-in hybrid compact SUV, an internal combustion engine-powered budget subcompact sedan, and a plug-in hybrid compact sedan positioned to compete in the midsize segment.
Aftersales support remains a key concern following issues experienced in the previous year. Geely stated its intention to improve service standards as part of efforts to restore customer confidence.
One measure already announced is a supply chain upgrade, including a six-month spare parts stockpile housed in a warehouse in Cabuyao, Laguna. This initiative is intended to reduce parts delays, speed up warranty processing, and improve parts availability across the dealership network.
GMP also plans to expand its dealership footprint. Several outlets closed over the past year, and the company aims to reopen and add new locations.
The first new dealership under GMP management is Geely Sta. Rosa in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna. The facility is operated by D&J Auto Limited Philippines Corporation, part of a Chinese automotive dealership group that manages multiple Geely outlets in China. A second dealership, Geely Fairview, will also operate under the same group in partnership with its existing local dealer principal.
Through new product launches, revised aftersales strategies, and dealership expansion, Geely Motor Philippines aims to regain momentum in a competitive local market. The effectiveness of these measures is expected to become clearer over time.
